As many of you know, 2020 through 2021 was a tough two years but also two years filled with highs in addition to the lows. I doubt anyone could have imagined the way that everything ended up playing out.
I apologize for the lack of updates to the CRACKSHOT project, especially in the past couple months. I was personally working on rebuilding CRACKSHOT from the ground up to make the system even better, but part way through, I caught COVID-19.
I had a pretty rough time with the disease, much tougher than I had expected being young and healthy with no pre-existing conditions. I thought it would be a walk in the park. One of the ways it affected me was insomnia, to the point of 0 sleep, for 9 days. Most of the effects of the virus were on my cognitive abilities. The last few days of that period, I was so sleep deprived, that I was hallucinating. I could barely talk, my wife had to communicate for me. The recovery from that was rough, as I spent the next couple months recovering slowly from what many call “long covid” or “brain fog”. It took a heavy toll on me cognitively to the point that it was very hard to write high quality code.
To put it lightly, for a few months, I was operating at maybe 70-80% of my cognitive ability pre-COVID. CRACKSHOT being a very complex project, I just wasn’t equipped mentally to do further work on it. I could barely (especially in the first few weeks) function in my day job when it came to running meetings and leading projects. It was definitely a tough season for me, feeling like a shell of my former self overall.
By God’s grace, my family and I are doing better than ever. I’ve since fully recovered, and I feel great physically. I ended up moving on from my previous job to pursue independent contracting (this will give me more time to focus on CRACKSHOT as a side business, and hopefully, with the goal of growing it to be a full time job by the end of 2022).
I am currently in rebuilding mode. I am in the process right now of finishing the refactoring that I was working on to the Laser Range Trainer prior to catching COVID.
I have a lot of exciting plans for CRACKSHOT moving forward and will be announcing them shortly.
Thank you for your patience and for sticking with this project.
